Macy Winn presents her first graduate-level poster at the ACS Conference in Washington, D.C.
We are so excited to share that a member of our team, Macy, had the opportunity to present her master’s research at the American Chemical Society Conference in Washington, D.C.! This was her very first time presenting at a national conference, and she represented the University of Arizona with a poster on her ongoing work.
Macy’s research grew out of her senior design capstone project and now forms the foundation of her accelerated master’s degree. Her work explores the biosorption capacity of inactivated Fusarium species for removing mixed heavy metals from mining-influenced water, an innovative approach to tackling one of the most persistent environmental challenges facing mining communities.
Reflecting on the experience, Macy shared:
“Attending the conference in D.C. was an incredible opportunity to share my research and connect with scientists coming from so many different backgrounds. The conversations I had not only expanded my technical knowledge, but also gave me a renewed sense of curiosity and confidence. Putting myself out there in that setting was one of the best things I could have done for my growth as a researcher, and I’m leaving with a genuine excitement to keep pushing my work forward.”
We are proud of Macy for taking this exciting step in her academic journey and can’t wait to see how her research continues to grow in the coming year!
